HOW DO YOU WANT TO FEEL?

ABOUT THE ISSUE
à Magazine - How do you want to feel | A Pretty Creative - It's not art it's an experience

FEEL RENEWED

I’ve spent most of my 20s “preparing myself”, getting ready for next year or the year after that, when I’d have more money, I’d be thinner, I’d be more successful. I’d spend my days anxious, stressed and basically miserable, thinking things that had happened, would happen, should happen, never focusing on what was happening at the moment.

FEEL A MEMBER

In à magazine and also all over the site, you’ll find exclusive content for members only (while still free). Become a member and get access!

I want to feel calm at Foyle's

FEEL CALM

Feeling calm, doesn’t always mean spent the day alone, in quiet, inside your home or at a quiet beach. I find more and more things that make me feel calm and do them as much as I can. Anything that includes books and reading is on my “calm” list.

FEEL MORE ME

Black has been my favourite colour forever. And even though I might be more keen on white the past years, I found that in my current favourite stuff, the colour Black is dominate! And i kind of like this colour-coded favourites! I was never into monthly favourites and stuff.

FEEL MAKEUP

MAKEUP IS A FEELING

Is this what I wanted to do forever? Do I want to be that person? Who would look for the brightest moment of the day, in a brand new highlighter? I thought it was all “makeup’s fault”, that it was too shallow, that it reflected vanity and I was one step before quitting…

What’s in my bag

Before I change to more summery bag, I wanted to show you around this one. It’s the first time that I really love the way I’ve organised my bag and it has been very convenient for day to day and also for travel, that’s why I’d love to share it with you.

FEEL INKED

I’ve been thinking about it for ages! I always admired tattoos and after the age “I was allowed” to get one, I was never sure of what design should I do and where. Since it was on my “before I’m 30” list, I went and got it on my birthday!

I don't know

The ultimate expression of maturity, appears to be “knowing what you want” and then figure out how to get it. In other words be a “go getter”. But the truth is, we receive so many contradictory signals all day long, that’s so easy to get confused and actually not knowing what you want. That’s totally fine! There is a quick way to find out, if not for really deep and philosophical matters, at least for simple everyday things in life.

he ultimate expression of maturity, appears to be “knowing what you want” and then figure out how to get it. In other words be a “go getter”. There is a quick way to find out, if not for really deep and philosophical matters, at least for simple everyday things in life.

We are wired to think what we most don’t want -it’s not you, or me, it’s human nature- and even though this seems as a flaw, it’s actually the way to know how you want to feel. Simply think of what you don’t want, what you hate, what you’d love to change/ get rid of/ run away from right now and then reverse it to a positive statement. For example: “I don’t want to feel blue” turns into “I want to feel joyful”, “I don’t want to remember that thing even happened” turns into “I want to set myself free from this memory (you won’t actually forget the event, but you might be able to see it from another perspective, from a distance).

Most of the content is published on the 1st day of each month, but I plan to publish some surprise content every month. The access is free, but I keep a small proportion of the content locked for members only (while still free). The magazine is being promoted all month long, through social media, and paid advertisement ensuring that your promotional material will be seen.

I could showcase your product/service, talk about it in a video (or more), review it or even form a whole section of the magazine around it. I love the idea of promoting indirectly, through experience, stories, art and well… content! It feels more realistic, it’s much more pleasant to the reader and much more effective for your brand.

Sponsoring concepts starting at €50, to fit any budget. But if you contact me early enough, you could even exclusively sponsor an issue, so go on, tell me about your product or service and we’ll find together the best ways to promote it to my beautiful audience!

WHAT’S THE “HOW DO YOU WANT TO FEEL” CONCEPT

F
rom your life goals to your nail polish, your interior decoration and your mobile phone case, I believe everything we do, are and own should work together to make us feel the way we want to feel, to make us happy in a way.

I’m here to create shortcuts to the feelings we want to feel using my content and favourite places online and off. My goal is to immerse you in the experience of your own feelings, through things as simple as reminding you how much you love that bright lipstick (and that you should wear it more often), but also as deep as pieces of phycology, philosophy, poetry and art.

The content comes monthly, but I might create a few bits throughout the month. It’s totally free and open to everyone, but there are a few pieces kept for members only (while still free!). If you want to access the exclusive content, you can simply join the free membership here.

I’m not going to lie, I decided to create this content because I love it! It’s like a dairy and gratitude list for me. but I have a strong feeling you’ll love it too!

The question is: How do you want to feel?

This is the issue where I get 30, I get my first tattoo and I get busy healing myself inside out! So it’ kind of a big deal for me! I have a lot of favourite content to share with you, even though I haven’t spend much time online the past month. If you follow me on Instagram and watch my Insta Stories, you already know some of my news, but here, I’ll present them in a more structured way…

As you might already have seen in issue 1, I decided to radically change the way I deliver my content. First of all, the website, will be the main place to present my content and all social media, will just be media to let you know about it. This allows me to be more focused in one place -rather than all over the place!- and be more consistent. It also gives me the freedom to plan out and experience things before I introduce them to you, which will result in much more well thought out and original content, I’ll enjoy more making and you’ll enjoy more watching/reading!

Take a cup of coffee or tea and dig through the issue. I really hope you’ll love it!

Until next time, take care!

xoxo

P.S. I already have a ton of ideas about the next issues of à  magazine, but I’d love your opinion about it! Click here to submit your thoughts and tell me what would you like to see more and less in each issue.

ABOUT THIS ISSUE

I WANT TO FEEL MAKEUP

RENEWED

MAKEUP IS A FEELING

I
had been working as a makeup artist for 10 years, and creating makeup videos on YouTube for 4, when I found myself in a constant shopping mode, quite broke, depended on others (in more ways than one) and feeling overall, well, unpleasant to put it elegantly. So I started questioning things. Is this what I wanted to do forever? Do I want to be that person? Who would look for the brightest moment of the day, in a brand new highlighter? I started looking at things with a whole new perspective, but I have to admit, I was carried away. I thought it was all “makeup’s fault”, that it was too shallow, that it reflected vanity and I was one step before quitting, when words and ideas from Danielle Laporte, Marie Kondo, Gabrielle Bernstein, Marie Forleo merged all together in my mind and I thought: Makeup is a Feeling; How do you want to feel?

The same way that it’s not money, fire or chocolate that is evil, it’s how you use them that can be good or bad. It’s not makeup, it’s how you use makeup.

Empowering makeup has a lasting feeling. It’s not a quick fix, it still makes you feel awesome when you take it off.

HOW DO YOU WANT TO FEEL?

I
have to admit that the “How do you want to feel” idea is not mine, it comes from the queen of the concept, Danielle Laporte and her book Desire Map. Together with the Marie Kondo’s method, author of the book The life-changing art of tidying up, it didn’t take me much time to decide that these are the ideas I wanted to live by: Have, Do, Think, Be things that make you happy. The idea might sound too good to be true or from an irresponsible point of view, but that’s not how I mean it at all. Of course this can be much less idyllic than it sounds on a day-to-day basis as it doesn’t seem too applicable, but I mean simple things, easy things, that could make us feel better on every part of our day. An article, video, place, lipstick, crystal, book, toothbrush could make you feel more fit, successful, abundant, light. They’re part of your world, they trigger your thoughts, which create your feelings.

I WANT TO FEEL RENEWED

I’m 30!

INKED

Your 20s is the decade that’s supposed to be carefree, happy, cute, intense and pretty much like a long party. Right? Well… not so much…

I “missed” so many days, nights, years, even the experience of my pregnancy and being a new mom, being too busy worrying about the next day, next year and hoping that my dreams would come true, so I could finally relax and be happy.

Along many lessons I’ve learned in the “process” of turning 30, this is the most important: It just doesn’t work this way. As cheesy or unrealistic as it sounds, the only way to be happy is “living in the moment”, paying attention to what’s going on around you, doing, seeing, feeling, tasting, smelling, touching what is right here right now. In two words: Being Mindful.

Since I suspect that this new decade I just entered, will go by as quickly as the previous did, I don’t plan to miss it too. Not another decade, not another month. While I am trying to make my dreams come true, I’m also here, now and enjoying it as much as I possibly can!

I thought I’d be “old”, “settled”, “there” by the time I was 30. It always seemed an age so far in the future… I’ve had some ideas about how being 30 would be, about what things I should have accomplished, movies I should have watched, places I should have been. I even had a “Before I turn 30” list… but I’ve misplaced it…

Yes, I have changes decades, yes I’ve left my “first youth” behind, but as you can imagine, nothing really changes. I still want to do silly things at times, and no, there is no “switch” to turn adulthood on and off, no magic wands that will make you instantly successful by the time you’re 30, and no jury will condemn you if you’re not in a serious relationship by now. Generally, no “instant”, “sudden” things happen when the clock turns midnight on your birthday.

The changes that have happened to me were deep, steady, thought-out and -most of them- conscious. Here are some of them:

I get too emotional too easily (some say this might be from motherhood, but I don’t know!)

I’m not as patient with… un-clear people, situations, proposals…

I’m not as patient… generally

I don’t believe everything people say (especially when they’re suppose to “help me”)

I don’t work for free anymore (If you’re wondering “Why did you ever do that?” ask any creative and they’ll tell you our struggle…)

I’ve become more “selfish” when I create something (be it a creative makeup, a video, an artwork or anything!)

I know why I want what I want

I WANT TO FEEL INKED

about my first tattoo

I’ve been thinking about it for ages! I always admired tattoos and after the age “I was allowed” to get one, I was never sure of what design should I do and where. Since it was on my “before I’m 30” list, I went and got it on my birthday!

I chose a part form my favourite poem by Odysseas Elytis, The Monogram (listen to it here)

“It’s me, do you hear me
I love you, do you hear me”

The poem obviously has romantic purposes and it was written for a tragic love story that reminds of Romeo an Julia. But to me, it has an even more personal meaning. It brings an intensity, an agony to be heard, but for love, that doesn’t always have to be romantic. it can just be love. It reminds me of my childhood (I was introduced to this poem when I was 11 or so -through a TV series 😛 ), it made me dream about someone that would stand in frond of me and simply tell me “It’s me. I love you”.

But most importantly, I feel like I’m telling it to myself. Since I’m repairing my relationship with Evi, it feels like it’s an appropriate reminder from me to me. “It’s me, do you hear me” (there where times that I forgot how to be myself), “I love you, do you gear me” (It sounds tacky, silly and funny to say “I love you” to yourself, but we all need to say it more frequently… More on that on July issue!)

Design-wise, of course I wanted to be beautiful and original, not in a font that everyone would have. So, what’s better than the poet’s handwriting himself? I have a version of the poem, printed with Elytis’ own handwriting and besides from being original and adding more value to the tattoo, it’s also absolutely beautiful -at least i find it beautiful!

Back to Black

CALM

I’ve managed to feel more and more me, lately, and since I have quite some flashbacks to my teenage years, where I felt more me, more expressive and more creative than ever, I am going back to Black, but not in a gloomy Amy Winehouse way…

Black has been my favourite colour forever. And even though I might be more keen on white the past years, I found that in my current favourite stuff, the colour Black is dominate! And i kind of like this colour-coded favourites! I was never into monthly favourites and stuff.

I WANT TO FEEL CALM

I want to feel calm at Foyle's

Feeling calm, doesn’t always mean spent the day alone, in quiet, inside your home or at a quiet beach. I find more and more things that make me feel calm and do them as much as I can. Anything that includes books and reading is on my “calm” list.

I spent half of April in London and among other stuff, I wanted to find a place where I could sit and read a ton of magazines, take notes and photos of things I’d find interesting. It didn’t happen. I couldn’t find such place and I didn’t want to buy a ton of magazines and carry them home with me. What I did find out, though, was that there were many bookstore-cafes (here’s a very good article I’ve found about them!) and even though I didn’t find any hidden little places only a local would know, I fell in love with the idea and I fell in love with Foyle’s right after!

I entered with coffee as my main purpose, and since I was with my man, getting lost inside a book and losing the sense of time was out of the question. I didn’t intent to buy more than a couple of magazines… but, who am I kidding… I got four books and I’m not even sorry!

Even though this is a flagship store, and you shouldn’t expect feelings of cosiness and the charm from an older era, the café is very modern but not too big, leaving a sense of “let’s get together after wandering around the art exhibition next to our tables”. I could literally spend the hole day there!
